My beautiful boy.

Cedric was booked on a flight last Sunday to return home. I was already on my way to Melbourne to pick him up when I got the news that he had been bitten by a snake, he didn’t survive.

Cedric had such a joy for life and was forever a clown. He moved through the world with lightness and mischief, always ready to make me laugh, always ready for the next adventure.

There was a sparkle in him a cheeky grin, that unmistakable presence that could lift any mood.

He particularly loved the beach. It was his place of freedom and happiness. Watching him run along the shoreline, ears flying and eyes bright, was one of my greatest simple joys.

On Monday, I took the girls to the beach. While we were there, a falcon circled in over us, then hovered very low and directly above us for far longer than I would have expected. We all stopped and looked up, watching in silence until the bird finally circled away. In that quiet moment, I had to believe he was watching over us in his own way.

He adored me in that pure, unwavering way only a dog can. He was my heart dog the one who leaves paw prints somewhere deeper than words can reach.

I am devastated that he didn’t make it home. But I carry comfort in knowing he knew he was loved completely. His life, though far too short, was filled with joy. And he will always be part of me.

Run free, my sweet boy. Chase the wind, find the shoreline, and wait for me there. You were my everything.
